Achievement at a glance
The existence of a pre-investment capacity building program to enable the engagement of leading multinational businesses, global sanitation experts and social investors to mentor promising business models for a 6-12 month period with the aim that they will graduate to private investment or partnership to achieve commercial viability and scale.
Challenges faced in implementation
In the research and development of the Toilet Board Coalition the greatest challenge has been how to bring speed and scale to the sanitation business eco-system. It is to this challenge that the TBC has created an Accelerator Program to provide context and timelines for the support of Sanipreneurs.
Next steps
Acceleratee Companies came in with identified barriers to scale, through workshop with TBC Member experts, those barriers were confirmed and work-plans established to chart the course towards scale. The Acceleratee Companies are now in the working phase of their program, they meet regularly with their mentors, participate in workshops and continually report on their progress.

The five beneficiaries are the five companies currently going through the 2016 Toilet Accelerator Program. They are receiving expert mentorship, hands-on counsel and, where necessary, financial investment from the Toilet Board Coalition.
