Description/achievement of initiative

Conduct a survey on the state of sustainable and regenerative agriculture at the state level in order to recommend ways forward to improve the productivity and production of small farms using environmentally sustainable methods. The report is based on the: - State level vision for small scale farmers, agriculture, and sustainability at large – - Challenges faced in the entire value system in transforming to more sustainable agriculture - Local ecology and impact of climate change. The report concludes with informed recommendations on how to best implement the transformation with an emphasis on the use of local resources and low-tech technologies.

Implementation methodologies

7 day field research in-country conducted by two Eco Strategies experts in order to gain data and insights on the report’s themes. The research is based on: - Existing global and local data - A series of meetings with experts and official from the main institutions and NGOs, distributors, and farmers who are already involved in sustainable agriculture or have the potential to benefit from it. - Visits to typical small subsistence and semi-commercial farms, urban and rural markets, existing agricultural/sustainable agricultural/regenerative agriculture/organic projects/farms, and agricultural research stations. A summary of initial understandings and recommendations is presented at the end of the visit to the Ministry of Agriculture and relevant stakeholders. A full report is submitted to the Ministry of Agriculture within one month of the field research.

Arrangements for Capacity-Building and Technology Transfer

The report and its recommendations for capacity building are submitted in full to the Ministry of Agriculture. Eco Strategies experts remain accessible for further consultations and for assistance in the implementation stages, including the designing, planning, and training-the-trainer program.
