Theme of 2016 High-level Political Forum is "Ensuring that no one is left behind"

On 14 March, ECOSOC adopted the theme of the 2016 High-level Political Forum on sustainable development as "Ensuring that no one is left behind”. This year’s Forum will take place from 11 to 20 July 2016 under the auspices of ECOSOC. Among other things, 21 States will conduct voluntary national reviews of the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.


New Partnerships for SDGs online platform now live

An upgraded version of the Partnerships for SDGs online platform is now live. It includes a feature which enables focal points to report on progress of their partnerships in an easy way, to inform the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development on how their partnerships are advancing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

It also has advanced search features, networking forum capabilities, and national pages to showcase partnerships and other voluntary initiatives operating in countries that are part of the HLPF.


Small Island Developing States Newsletter launched

The first issue of ‘SIDS Times’, a newsletter on small island developing states (SIDS), was launched in March. The bimonthly newsletter is prepared by UN DESA with inputs from members of the Inter-Agency Consultative Group (IACG) on SIDS. The first issue features eight articles, including one on the first meeting of the Steering Committee on Partnerships for Small Island Developing States held on 25 February 2016 at UN Headquarters in New York.


Call for Papers on Inequality

To promote understanding and global awareness of critical issues pertaining to inequality, as well as to contribute to the ongoing discourse on the development of policy initiatives, Natural Resources Forum, a United Nations Sustainable Development Journal, calls for papers for a Special Issue on Inequality, to be published in 2016. Deadline for submission is 15 May 2016.


10-Member Group to Support Technology Facilitation Mechanism meets with UN Inter-agency Task Team on Science, Technology and Innovation for SDGs

The first meeting of the 10-Member Group to support the Technology Facilitation Mechanism took place on 3-4 March 2016 at United Nations Headquarters in New York, where the Group met in person, interacted with the Inter-Agency Task Team on Science, Technology and Innovation for SDGs, and exchanged views with interested Member States. Dr. Bill Colglazier and Dr. Heide Hackmann were elected as Co-Chairs of the Group, and members agreed on the Group’s terms of reference.


India-based Software Engineer Wins First Prize in #LinksSDGs Data Visualization Challenge

Mr. Abdulqadir Rashik has won the Unite Ideas #LinksSDGs data visualization challenge. The global data science competition aimed to engage the public in sharing ideas about how to visualize the interlinkages between Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The project was a collaboration between the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) Division for Sustainable Development and the Office of Information and Communications Technology (OICT).
