UN Secretary-General and World Bank Group President appoint members of High-level Panel on Water
On 21 April 2016, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and World Bank Group President Jim Yong Kim announced the appointment of 10 Heads of State and Government, as well as two Special Advisors, to the High-Level Panel on Water.
The Panel aims to mobilize effective action to accelerate the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG6), which focuses on ensuring the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.
"Ensuring that no one is left behind" blog series launched with contribution by ECOSOC President
The theme of the 2016 High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development will be “Ensuring that no one is left behind”, which is also a central promise of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. In the lead-up to the 2016 HLPF, weekly blogs by representatives of Member States, UN system and major groups and other stakeholders will be featured to present different viewpoints on how we can ensure that no one is left behind in the implementation of the SDGs.
The blog series was launched on 25 April by an entry of H.E. Mr. Oh Joon, President of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).
2016 UN DESA Grant on Energy for Sustainable Development now accepting applications
The 2016 cycle of the UN-DESA Grant on Energy for Sustainable Development is now accepting applications. The thematic focus for the 2016 Grant is “Energy for Sustainable Transport”. Deadline for applications is 15 July 2016.
Contribute to UN report on Higher Education for Sustainable Urban Development
The Higher Education Sustainability Initiative (HESI), a partnership between UN-DESA, UNESCO, UNEP, UN Global Compact's Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) initiative, UNU and UN-Habitat, is preparing a report on the role of Higher Education for Sustainable Urban Development, in support in support of 2016 Habitat III Conference, which is taking place later this year in Quito, Ecuador.
The HESI partnership is seeking input to the report from higher education institutions all over the globe.
Last chance to join Global Online Discussion on Science, Technology and Innovation for SDGs
Moderated by internationally recognized experts, the global online discussion on Science, Technology and Innovation for the Sustainable Development Goals is still open until 6 May 2016.
The discussion will feed directly into the first Multi-Stakeholder Forum on Science, Technology and Innovation for the SDGs (STI Forum), which will take place at UN Headquarters in New York on 6-7 June 2016.
There is still time to join the participants from civil society, academia, the private sector, experts on science, technology and innovation, and world famous moderators in the conversation.
Registration for participation in HLPF 2016 now open for Major Groups and other Stakeholders
Registration for major groups and other stakeholders to participate in the 2016 session of the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, to be held from 11-20 July in New York, is now open. Those interested in attending the session are invited to register on CSO Net by the 10 June 2016.
