The general objective of the project is to assist the small island developing states of the Caribbean in meeting their commitments under the Mauritius Strategy for further implementation of the SIDS Programme of Action (MSI) in the Caribbean. The specific objective is to equip the Caribbean SIDS with a centralised, effective and dedicated mechanism for the co-ordination of sustainable human development initiatives in the Caribbean sub-region with a view to streamlining resource use, reducing duplication and promoting coordination, planning and information-sharing nationally and regionally.
- Development and enhancement of a knowledge base for key natural hazard risks; - Regional studies concerning the economics of climate change and the impact of natural disasters on particular sectors such as tourism; - Decision-making tools which might be developed by CCRIF and/or ECLAC to assist in mitigating the economic impacts of natural catastrophes; and - Climate change adaptation strategies to facilitate decision making across the region.
This partnership is the area of energy efficiency and renewable energy and focuses on support for the development of national energy policies as well as identification of fiscal and regulatory barriers to implementation of energy efficiency initiatives and renewable energy technologies. This partnership realised the conduct of regional economic and social assessments of the impacts of climate change in the agriculture, coastal and marine, energy, health, tourism and water sectors. The estimated projections of the economic and social costs of climate change to the Caribbean subregion were calculated until 2030. The partnership also facilitated the development of an Caribbean-specific econometric model that could be utilised by countries and regional and national organisations in projecting the economic and social costs of climate change.
ECLAC is currently partnering with CARICOM in preparation of a 5-year evaluation on implementation of the Economic Partnership Agreement that Caribbean SIDS have with the European Union.
This partnership revolved around monitoring of the Cairo Programme of action in the area of the International Conference on Population and Development. ECLAC and UNFPA jointly convened a meeting that monitored many social themes such as migration, HIV AIDS and Caribbean demographics.
The Global Partnership for Sustainable Development Data is multi-stakeholder network of more than 150 data champions harnessing the data revolution for sustainable development. The overall objective of this project is to reduce the carbon footprint of the Caribbean sub-region through the improvements in energy security. More specifically, it will:- assess the current status of electric grids in five countries of the Caribbean sub-region with a view to making recommendations for improving grid stability;- providing guidance to these countries in strengthening institutional frameworks to support improvements in grid stability;- provide analytical information that would inform the elaboration and adoption of action plans focused on grid modernization
The partnership's objective is to increase the capacity of policy makers and public finance managers in the selected countries to apply the methods and techniques of the training and resource materials to improve the management their public finances to more effectively control deficits and debt and thereby to increase resources for sustainable development programmes.
