The SDKP is an open partnership. Interested individuals, institutions, networks and governments are invited to join the partnership, provided they are willing to participate in the activities of the network. As the year 2012, 20 years from the Earth Summit, constitutes a milestone for the network, it is expected that members should commit to participate at least until 2012.
The work of the partnership will be led by a Steering committee.
The Secretariat of the Partnership is temporarily assumed by the Division for Sustainable Development of the United Nations (UN-DSD). The Division for Sustainable Development will act as the focal point for the Partnership during its constitution. After the Partnership is launched, secretariat functions will be located in one of the member institutions, perhaps on a rotating basis.
The Secretariat’s main functions will be to monitor the Partnership’s work program and the advancement of the SDA. It will also serve as a coordinator for coordination functions such as writing official mail of the network, editing a newsletter, maintaining a website, preparing annual meetings of the network, etc.
Due to its multiple functions, the network is multi-centered and organized around Working groups.
