To improve the capacity of developing country policy-makers to engage in international discussions on sustainable development issues, through training for:
Capacity-building targeted at policy-makers has been identified as one of the missing links that the SDKP should address. Training activities delivered by the network will be oriented towards improving the capacity of policy-makers, both in countries and in the United Nations, on sustainable development issues discussed at the Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD) and elsewhere in the international political process.
In particular, the partnership would be asked to contribute to the design of training modules on the topics of the current CSD cycle (Transport, mining, waste, chemicals management, and sustainable consumption and production). Training delivered by the SDKP will aim to bring the policy research closer to the political process, based on identified awareness gaps and lags between the state of research and the political discussions.
The training activities will target members of country missions to the United Nations in New York working on sustainable development issues, as well as policy makers and their advisors in developing countries. The two target groups have different compositions and backgrounds, different awareness of the technical and political issues, and different needs in terms of training.
