What are the key elements that countries and international organizations may need to take into account in formulating action plans and/or roadmaps for science, technology and innovation for the Sustainable Development Goals?

Roadmaps for science, technology and innovation have been recognized as a powerful way to build robust national STI systems. Based on examples, this discussion will seek to identify key elements needed for national STI roadmaps to successfully contribute to deliver the SDGs .In order to work, such roadmaps have to be cognizant of national circumstances, including in terms of current STI capacities, existing development challenges for various communities and groups, features of the national economy and the country’s position in the world system of exchange, and many more. They also have to involve the right mix of stakeholders in their design and implementation.
